UK car sales are on the up. According to the Society for Manufacturers and Motor Traders 402,560 new cars were registered in September 2013, compared to 358,898 in September 2012 - a 12.1% rise.
A similar trend can be seen in the year to date figures for 2013. 1,788,721 cars have been sold from January to September, a 10.9% rise over 2012.
The top 10 sellers so far in 2013 have been: 1 - Ford Fiesta, 2 - Ford Focus, 3 - Vauxhall Corsa, 4 - VW Golf, 5 - Vauxhall Astra, 6 - Nissan Qashqai, 7 - BMW 3-series, 8 - BMW 1-series, 9 - VW Polo, 10 - Peugeot 208.
September 2013's sales represent the highest figure since September 2008.
Meanwhile the top ten risers in 2013 (who saw the highest increases over their sales figures from January to September 2012) are below. Maybe it's coincidence but all of the top 10 risers are blogger friendly manufacturers who lend their cars to sites like Speedmonkey for evaluation. Well done to Mitsubishi, Suzuki and Fiat for forming the top three.
The top ten fallers, who've seen the biggest decrease in sales from 2012, are below. The wooden spoons go to Proton, MG and Perodua. MG seriously needs the MG3 to do well.
