The first Porsche 911 Turbo concept appeared at the 1973 Frankfurt Motor Show. It was essentially a Carrera RS 3.0 but with Turbo decals at the rear. That concept featured a 2.7 litre engine which was quoted as producing 280bhp, and with a top speed of 160mph.
Public interest was enough that Porsche developed a production version and at the 1974 Paris Motor Show the first 911 Turbo was shown. It had a 3 litre engine with a single turbocharger and produced 260bhp. It had cost Porsche $2million to develop.
Thereafter all variants of the Porsche 911 featured a turbocharged model.
