Opel Adam R2 rally car - specs and images

Opel already told us they were going to introduce an R2 rally version of the Adam last November.  Have a look here for details.  Now they've given us a bit more information, although it's interesting trying to decipher given the press release which seems to have been written in German then chucked through Google Translate.

The Adam 'Lifestyle car' (Opel's phrase, not ours) concept car will be homologated to FIA R2 standards during 2013 which will make it eligible for every national rally championship throughout Europe.

Opel call the Adam chic, classy and eye-catching.  Here's what our readers called it.  We call the Adam R2 a stripped out, rally bred, gravel munching stages weapon.

The engine is a 1.6-litre ECOTEC 16V engine with variable camshaft phasing that develops around 185 bhp and maximum torque of about 140 lb ft (the Fiesta R2 has 170bhp).  Power is transmitted to the road via a Sadev sequential five-speed gearbox and a limited-slip differential with multi-disc lock.

The brakes have been uprated over the road car and feature Brembo 4 pot front calipers and brake pressure regulation for the rear wheels.

Other features include undercar panels to protect the underside, an integrated roll cage, SPARCO racing seats with HANS protection system and monitoring and info systems such as a gear indicator, trip computer, central control panel, map reading light and a plumbed in fire extinguisher.

The price hasn't yet been released but expect it to be similar to the Ford Fiesta R2, which M-Sport sell for £43,000 plus tax.
