The UK is now the second largest new car market in Europe. Private sales drove demand in 2012 to a new high since 2008.
The UK new car market for sales between January and November grew 5.4% on the same period in 2011. Total sales from January to November 2012 were 1,921,052 cars.
Germany is still the biggest market in Europe, with the UK second and France third. Sales seem to have been driven by discounting, as well as innovative new models (hybrids, small engines and diesels - eurgh). Private sales grew 12.9% over the year to date. The total expected sales for the year should edge to just over 2,000,000.
The top ten new car sales from January to November are below. The fact there are so many BMW 1 series on the road is alarming for those of us with eyes and an allergy to ugliness. At least there are slightly more Mercedes-Benz C Class which, in it's current guise, is rather handsome.
