One such car has come up for £55,000 on eBay. It's a 1969 Dodge Charger 440 RT SE. The owner bought it in California from the original owner, brought it back to the UK and spent 5 years giving it a ground up restoration. The paintwork looks red in the photos but the seller assures us it's the 'correct bright orange'. He also points out that the flag and numbers are painted, rather than being stickers.
This General Lee is listed as only having done 2500 miles. Presumably that is since the restoration.
If you've £55,000 burning a hole in your pocket and have been after a mint condition American muscle car then this certainly ticks all the boxes. You've got to be slightly deranged (and an exhibitionist) to spend that much money on a General Lee but if we had so much money it didn't matter, we all would. Wouldn't we?
There is an issue though. It's not a 100% faithful restoration. The doors on this car open whereas the Dukes of Hazzard's General Lee had the doors welded shut to increase stiffness. Tut tut
