Either because he was missing the action or in order to demonstrate that he can drive a competition car Robert Kubica entered himself for this weekend's Gomitolo Ronde di Lana rally. And won.
The rally, a domestic Italian competition, was Kubica's automotive comeback since crashing in Italy in February 2011. His co-driver was Giuilano Manfredi and the car was a Subari Impreza World Rally car. They won all four stages and beat second place Omar Bergo by a minute.
The choice of sport was surprising considering it was during a rally that Kubica crashed and sustained his injuries. We reported on his recovery in August, here.
Robert Kubica was lined up to drive the second Ferrari in 2013 but the Scuderia believed his injuries prevented him from doing so. Felipe Massa may still be retained but his recent form have led Ferrari to consider other options. Whoever is signed for Ferrari will only do so for one year as the team still hope that Robert will race for them in 2014.
Maybe this was Kubica demonstrating that he is ready and willing to race for Ferrari in 2013?
