Mazda claims the car is safer and more refined with the addition of more refined throttle actuation and a vacuum brake booster. In real terms this will mean it goes and stops more smoothly and with more power.
The MX-5 has a new front end and revised interior and will come with a wider choice of colours.
The engines remain the same which will mean a choose of 1.8 or 2.0 litre powerplants with 124bhp or 158bhp respectively. Not bad for a car which weighs 1155kg.
The car is rolling off the productions lines in Hiroshima now and will be in UK showrooms late 2012 with a starting price of around £16,000.
